NitroTek Internet Services
was formed in 1997 to meet the growing needs of non-profit
groups who wanted affordable web-site hosting services.
Since then, NitroTek has both increased its range of
services to non-profits and expanded those services
to small businesses. NitroTek Internet Services was
extremely proud to be nominated by the Society
of Fund Raising Executives (now the Association
of Fundraising Professionals) at the 2002 Atlantic Philanthropy
Awards for Small Business Philanthropist of the Year.
NitroTek employs five staff with experience in web
design, project management, online databases, e-commerce
and graphic design. In 2010, the company incorporated as
NitroTek Internet Services Inc. (Business Number

President
and Chief Innovation Officer of NitroTek Internet
Services Inc. is Alex
Handyside. Alex holds an MBA from Saint Mary’s
University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a concentration
in Social Marketing, and a BA in Political History
from the UK's Open University. He is a Fellow
of the Chartered
Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD).
In 2001, he was appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor
of Nova Scotia to a three-year term on the Board
of the Halifax Public Library. Alex sits on
a number of NPO boards and committees including: the Atlantic Fringe Festival,
Nova Scotia HomeCare Alliance, CARP Nova Scotia,
Serving Seniors Alliance and 100 Men Who Give A Damn! - Halifax. He is also involved with Canada
Games 2011, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Hospice Halifax, Parker Street Food
and Furniture Bank, and MyFootballClub.
In 2004 the Handyside
Ethical & Social Responsibility Award
was established at the Canadian Centre for Ethics
in Public Affairs at Saint Mary's University to
promote ethics and social responsibility in the
workplace.
Alex is long-time Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside. He is a sometime radio broadcaster and public
speaker, he writes columns for four newspapers, and the founder of 100 Men Who Give A Damn! - Halifax.
